Lake Monsters Win at Brooklyn, 5-2
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters took Brooklyn pitcher Luke Tegland's best shot and still were able to claim a win at MCU Park. The final score had Vermont getting past the Cyclones, 5-2. Tegland went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 5. Vermont reliever Bobby Jagels was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Julian Boone took the loss. Paco Carvajal was credited with the save for Vermont, his 3rd of the season.
The result might have been different for Vermont, had it not been for Hal Williams, the 24-year old third baseman . Williams stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put Vermont up, 5-2. For the game, he had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Williams, "one at-bat at a time."
The 7th-place Lake Monsters are 11-14.
