Jokers Raise Rally Flag, Beat Staten Island, 5-3
|
The Atlantic City Jokers beat the Staten Island Pizza Rats by a score of 5-3. Atlantic City second baseman Leon Brewster deserved the lion's share of the credit. Brewster was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Jokers. Atlantic City reliever Ulises Neil picked up the win. Kerlon Anaya took the loss for Staten Island. At 23-37, Atlantic City is in 8th place in the New York-Penn League South Division.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Samuel Puentes came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Staten Island pitcher Kerlon Anaya, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Atlantic City on top, 4-3.
"We did a lot of things right," said Brewster.
