Niagara Falls beat Spokane at Nat Bailey Stadium, escaping with a 5-4 win. The win in large part was due to second baseman V.J. Sturtevant. He went 1 for 3 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Hoyt Coltrane got the win, improving to 1-2. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Dudley Bennett finished the game for Niagara Falls and earned his 2nd save.

Sturtevant contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Niagara Falls in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Sturtevant took a fastball from Lee Grubb and stroked the home run to right. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Rapids to leap in front, 4-3.

"We found a way to get it done," Sturtevant said.

The 6th-place Rapids are 14-17.
