Spikes Edge Past Ironbirds, 7-6
|
Morris Kovar powered the State College Spikes to a win over the Aberdeen Ironbirds. The final score was 7-6. The State College left fielder, who is tied for 6th in the NYP in hits with 85, was phenomenal. He stroked 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. James Born, now 2-2, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. At 41-23, the Spikes find themselves in second place in the New York-Penn League South Division.
Kovar had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a first pitch fastball from Darren Babin, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Spikes a 7-6 lead. It was the 6th home run of the year for Kovar.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Kovar.
