Alec Young pitched a gem to lead Eugene to victory over the Yakima Valley Pippins, 2-1. Chipper Ray notched his 3rd save of the season. The Emeralds sit in 7th place in the Northwest League South Division with a record of 10-14.

Lorenzo Vargas had a big 2-run double for the Emeralds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Eugene trailing 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a slider from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Piglet Sivak and swatted a double to left. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Emeralds ahead, 2-1.

"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Vargas.
