Red-Hot Spartans Win Again
|
The Olympia Spartans took Spokane pitcher Jake Szilvas's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Avista Stadium. The final score had Olympia getting past the Indians, 3-2. Szilvas went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 5. Christopher Roberts, who is tied for 4th in the NWL with a 1.83 ERA, was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. The first-place Spartans are now 26-6, the Indians 17-15.
Manuel Chaves came through with a big-time hit for Olympia. The designated hitter smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Swagger goes hand in hand with playing well," said Olympia manager Jim Todd.
