Volcanoes 7-2 Winners Versus Wenatchee
|
The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes used the hitting of second baseman Tanner Willis to subdue the Wenatchee Chiefs, 7-2. For the game, Willis was 4-5 with 4 singles. Wrench Coker was the winner. Over 5.1 innings, he yielded 2 runs on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. The first-place Volcanoes have won 4 consecutive games.
Kel Williams had a big 2-run home run for the Volcanoes in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Salem-Keizer leading 4-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 18-year old right-handed pitcher Eugene Washington and swatted a home run to left. It was his 5th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Volcanoes ahead, 6-2.
"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said Salem-Keizer manager Tony Zapata.
