Nowlin, Spartans Serve Up 8-4 Win
|
Evan Nowlin was instrumental in his team's 8-4 triumph over the New Westminster Cavalry. The second baseman was 2 for 2 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Olympia Spartans. Jim Blatnick, the winner, goes to 1-4. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 9 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Jonathan Romero closed out the game, earning his 3rd save.
With Olympia trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Nowlin hit a fastball from Fred Cady for a 3-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Spartans ahead, 3-1.
"The clubhouse vibe is great," said Olympia manager Jim Todd.
The win puts the Spartans at 32-14, while the Cavalry drop to 24-22.
