You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Houston and Minnesota have made a swap with 35-year old LF Matt Wayne, 35-year old CF Rodolfo Dominguez, 21-year old minor league RHP Murray Yallop, 23-year old minor league RF Nolan Rodriguez, and $1 in cash being shipped to the Twins and in return the Astros would get 36-year old LHP Jeremy Mellen and $1,000,000 in cash.

Houston general manager Sterling Simpson said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction.

"This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines."

A source inside the Houston organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works.

Minnesota will retain a portion of Mellen's remaining contract.

During his career Dominguez has played in 1332 games, batted .280 with 28 home runs and 1357 base hits.

A look at his career stats shows Mellen has a record of 167 wins and 126 losses and a 3.60 ERA.
