Big Day with Bat: Asante 5-for-6 Sunday, August 5th, 2007 Zion Asante was at the head of a Celaya hit parade today at Celaya Grounds. The right fielder went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, sparking the Blue Wings to a 17-10 victory over the Santa Catarina Imperials. "I told the guys in the dugout, just be thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging Asante told reporters after the game. "Seems like it worked out well for us today." Imperials skipper Juan Maldonado said later that the club gave up "too much plate." "Not the way we planned it," he said. "Every hitter in the league will rip you when you do that." Zion Asante hit an RBI single in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Alex Diaz in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 7th and hit an RBI triple in the 8th. Thus far this season in 94 games Asante is batting .309 with 7 home runs, 41 RBIs and 66 runs scored. He has 116 hits in 375 at-bats. View Boxscore |
