Martin Slams 5 Hits for Columbia
Monday, July 17th , 2056
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Mitchel Martin, it came around today.
The 24-year-old center fielder scattered hits all over Arthur W. Perdue Stadium to pace the 10-6 Columbia Fireflies victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds.
Delmarva skipper Elias Gonzalez told reporters in the press room that "Martin deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Martin hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Mitchel Martin struck out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season, Martin has recorded a .291 batting average with 51 hits, 6 home runs, 22 RBIs, 24 runs scored and a .361 OBP.
