Newman 5-for-5 for Hamilton Monday, June 17th , 2052 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Matt Newman, it came around today. The 22-year-old left fielder scattered hits all over Red Wings Ballpark to pace the Hamilton Red Wings to a 11-10 victory over the Auburn Doubledays. Auburn skipper Kenny Rinderle told reporters in the press room that "Newman deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Newman hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Matt Newman singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, was hit by a pitch in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 9th. View Boxscore |
