The Gilbert Geckos had to overcome a good performance from Glendale pitcher Todd Johnson to claim a 3-2 win at Maryvale Baseball Park. Johnson went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Gilbert reliever Norradin Robinson was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Sam Sharpless took the loss. The Geckos saw their record improve to 18-23.

Gilbert used a timely hit from Carson Schmitt to get the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Geckos ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Gilbert manager Jason Blahut.
