The Clearwater Threshers downed the Gilbert Geckos, 8-3, at Pirate City Complex. R.J. Mathieu led the way, going 2-for-3 for Clearwater. Brock Woods picked up the save, his 1st. Clearwater has a record of 17-11, placing them second in the Florida Rookie League Northwest Division.

The Threshers got an important contribution from third baseman Andy Faron, who in the bottom of the first punched a full count sinker into right for a 2-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Threshers ahead, 3-0.

"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Mathieu. "Just do my job."
