Roughnecks Fall to Hummingbirds, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring game between Sierra Vista and Ahwatukee, pitcher Elias Shorty was excellent. The Sierra Vista right-hander helped his team knock off the Roughnecks, 3-1. Shorty, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. The Hummingbirds now have a record of 25-26 with the win over Ahwatukee.
Sierra Vista used a well-timed hit by Boston Bibee to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Hummingbirds ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," Bibee told the Sierra Vista Daily News.
