Torts Claim Late Win
|
The Kingman Torts downed the Flagstaff Blue Devils, 2-0, at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. Stellar pitching by Chris Santo had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, the 25th overall pick in the 2062 draft, handcuffed his opponent all game. The winner in relief was Noam Roberts. He is now 1-4. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. The win puts the Torts at 36-22, while the Blue Devils drop to 27-31.
Kingman used the timely hitting of Hayden Watson to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Torts on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Santo told the Kingman News. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
