Steers Handed 2-0 Loss by Gauchos
|
Maryvale Baseball Park was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
Glendale turned a good effort from starter Levi Fritz into a win over the Sedona Steers at Maryvale Baseball Park. The final score was 2-0. Fritz yielded no runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 5-3.
The Steers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Gauchos going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old shortstop Mack Perez came to the plate. Perez hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 fastball from Sedona hurler Piero Sardini. It was Perez's 10th double of the year.
"Runs were at a premium," said Glendale manager Axel Campbell.
The Gauchos win now puts them at 29-30.
