Torts Fall, 6-2, to Uelmen, Armadillos
|
Phoenix right fielder Monty Uelmen was instrumental in helping the Armadillos triumph, 6-2, over the Kingman Torts. Uelmen hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Reggie Saffet, who is tied for 8th in the AZL in innings pitched with 75.0, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. At 31-33, the Armadillos claim 6th place in the Arizona Rookie League North Division.
The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Uelmen hit a run-scoring single off Warren Thacher. It propelled the Armadillos into the lead, 1-0.
Phoenix manager Jason Schafer commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
