The Florence Swordfish took Gilbert pitcher Sam Langston's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Goodyear Ballpark. The final score had Florence getting past the Geckos, 8-5. Langston went 5 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 6. Florence reliever Liberato Martínez picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Jason Love took the loss. Florence, at 21-15, occupies first place in the Arizona Rookie League South Division.

Had Randall Madrid not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Madrid hit a 2-run single. That made the score 7-5, in favor of the Swordfish.

"It's not about individual awards," Madrid told a Florence Citizen reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
