The Yuma Gnomes got a superb performance from shortstop Edson Courtney. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Gilbert. The Geckos won the game, 5-3. Courtney went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Phil Winston locked down his 4th save. Gilbert currently is in second place in the Arizona Rookie League South Division at 24-19.

Viviano Pérez dealt the Gnomes a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with the bases loaded and Gilbert leading 3-2, Pérez hit a 1-2 sinker for a 2-run single.

"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Pérez. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
