The Hialeah Gales converted a terrific effort from starter Sanders Whitmore into a win over the Fort Lauderdale Pirates at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. The Gales won the game by a final score of 5-2. The 'W' lifts Hialeah's record to 11-9.

Hialeah used a timely hit from Karl Stevenson to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Gales ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We did the things it takes to win a ballgame," said Hialeah manager Ramón Nazario.
