The Sanibel Sailors outlasted Martin Diaz and the Hialeah Gales, 8-7. Diaz was impressive in the loss. The Hialeah first baseman was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The win was credited to Martin Valle in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Kenny Marte took the loss. Adrian Peifer was credited with the save for Sanibel, his 5th of the season.
Had Grayson Rogers not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Rogers hit a grand slam home run. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Sailors.
"We came out with clear minds and swung the bats well," said Sanibel manager Rich Bernard.
The 5th-place Sailors improved to 16-14.
