Manatees Take Down Quahogs, 5-4
|
The Buckeye Quahogs got a sterling performance from pitcher Aiden Mazur, but the Coral Springs Manatees still prevailed, 5-4. Mazur threw 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball. Jeremiah Thornton, 4-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4.1 innings. The second-place Manatees now have a win-loss record of 32-19.
Coral Springs used the timely hitting of Brian Kay to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Manatees on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Good win for us," said Kay. "We'll strap it on and go after the next one."
