Chiefs Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Clippers, 6-5
|
With right fielder Ricky Johnson leading the charge, the Syracuse Chiefs defeated the Columbus Clippers, 6-5, at Huntington Park. Johnson was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs. Syracuse reliever Matthew Szymanski picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Alex Meyer shouldered the loss. The win gives Syracuse a record of 4-4.
Avery McLean was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI for Syracuse. The 27-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring walk off Joham Dosal. It was his 1st walk of the season.
"I just tried to make good contact," said McLean.
