The Newark Bears defeated the Columbus Clippers by the score of 8-3, with the biggest share of the credit going to first baseman Jolly Roger Taylor. Taylor went 3-4 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4 for the Bears on the day. Christo Robles, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. The defeat makes Columbus 11-10.

Brandon Chastain went 1 for 3 with a double for Newark. The 27-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Erik Burris. It was his 9th RBI of the season.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Chastain.
