Hawthorne Lifts Bears to 9-2 Triumph
Jim Hawthorne was instrumental in his team's 9-2 triumph over the Scranton Dundies. The third baseman was 3-4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and 2 walks, while scoring 3 and driving in 3 for the Newark Bears. Despite the win, Newark, now 5-16, is off to a terrible start.

With Newark leading 3-2 in the top of the fourth, Hawthorne hit a sinker from Cato Ambros for a run-scoring double. It was his 3rd double of the season and put the Bears ahead, 4-2.

Scranton manager Dustin Bartholomew said his team was "out of sync."
