Great Day for Wollam, Hits for Cycle
|
Liam Wollam did everything he could for the Orlando Wizards -- literally.
The 27-year-old left fielder hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Wizards, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Toledo Mud Hens, 10-3, at Fifth Third Field.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Wollam reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Wollam banged out 4 hits in 5 at-bats and totaled 4 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Liam Wollam hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Wyatt Wagner in the 4th, hit a two-run triple in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.
Currently Wollam is batting .359 with 2 home runs and 19 RBIs.
