Bears Score Late to Upend Oddballs, 6-5
|
Led by Mark Wade, the Newark Bears defeated the Ottawa Oddballs, 6-5. Wade was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Bears. Newark reliever Ryan Stucky picked up the win to move to 1-3. Stan Harris suffered the loss. Yes, it was a win for Newark; but their 12-35 mark is nothing to crow about.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 5-5, left fielder Adrián Saenz won it for Newark. With the bases loaded, Saenz hit a 1-0 fastball from Stan Harris for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 6-5 win.
"We need to get rid of the bad mojo," said Saenz. "Maybe this win will help."
