|
Wilkes-Barre Barons starter Simón Veneto hurled his team past the Norfolk Tides, 4-2. Veneto, now 1-3, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. The 'W' lifts Wilkes-Barre's record to 20-25.
Wilkes-Barre used a well-timed hit by Walker Matthews to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Barons ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Matthews told the Wilkes-Barre Gazette.
