Hogue Batters Columbus for 5 Hits
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Lane Hogue, it came around today.
The 28-year-old catcher scattered hits all over Huntington Park to pace the 9-3 Ottawa Oddballs victory over the Columbus Clippers.
Columbus skipper Gregory Edgar told reporters in the press room that "Hogue deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Hogue hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Lane Hogue doubled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 8th.
This season, Hogue has delivered 63 hits in 191 at-bats for a .330 average with 8 home runs. He is getting on base at a .395 clip and his totals also include 36 RBIs and 35 runs scored. This year Hogue has played in 50 games.
