Red Sox Beaten, 5-1, by Chiefs
|
Syracuse pitcher Jim Tschopp had a large part in his team beating the Pawtucket Red Sox, 5-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Tschopp picked up the win for Syracuse, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 3-3. With the win, Syracuse raised its record to 38-34.
The Red Sox had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Chiefs going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old left fielder Ray Calvo came to the plate. Calvo hit a run-scoring triple on a 1-1 cutter from Pawtucket hurler Coleman Foley. It was Calvo's 3rd triple of the year.
"Jim executed his pitches at a high level," said Syracuse manager Matt Thompson.
