Stripers Top Oddballs, 7-3
|
Gwinnett Stripers starter Joe Velasco was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Ottawa Oddballs, 7-3. The winner in relief was Gilbert Hill. He is now 3-2. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. The Stripers raised their record to 28-45.
Had Zachary Halter not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Halter hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Stripers.
"I know we have our doubters," said Ottawa manager Dave Hicks. "But I still have high hopes for this team."
