Ramón Aristizabal of the Syracuse Chiefs was on top of his game.

The 32-year-old tantalized the Birmingham Barons with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 7-0.

"He had the changeup working," Birmingham manager Matt Baker said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Syracuse hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 7 hits in his complete-game effort.

Aristizabal told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

In 15 starts this season, Aristizabal has recorded a 5-5 record and a 4.92 ERA.
