Newark 4-2 Losers to Grizzlies
|
Adonis Valenzuela pitched well, but the Newark Bears still lost the game, falling, 4-2, to the Maine Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park. Jeff Ponton came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. His record now stands at 2-2. Lee Merklein closed it out for his 9th save.
In the bottom of the third inning, designated hitter Pedro Pérez had a 2-run home run for Maine. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Grizzlies on top, 3-1.
"We missed opportunities once again," said losing manager Shark McGee.
Maine, at 41-37, occupies third place in the International League Northeast Division.
