Bears Lose, 6-2
|
The Louisville Bats beat the Newark Bears, 6-2. Louisville pitcher and New York, native Hewett Linville led the way. In 7 innings, Linville surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 4. He allowed 2 runs. The Bats raised their record to 39-44.
Louisville used a clutch hit from Ollie Backman to get the win. The shortstop drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bats ahead, 6-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Linville.
