Alomar Lifts Stripers to 8-3 Win
|
Behind the bravura of third baseman Chan Alomar, the Gwinnett Stripers topped the Orlando Wizards by the score of 8-3. Alomar was 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Stripers. Conrad Williams, the winner, improved to 6-9. He held Orlando to 2 runs on 5 hits over 7.2 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Gwinnett goes to 40-50, Orlando to 54-36.
Alomar contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Gwinnett in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Alomar took a changeup from Deroy Polk and stroked the double to left. His 15th double of the season allowed the Stripers to leap in front, 3-2.
"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Alomar.
