The Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Syracuse Chiefs, 8-7, at McCoy Stadium. Pawtucket designated hitter Shaun Thomas had an outstanding performance. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Syracuse is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 7 in a row.

The Red Sox got a big hit from second baseman Raymon Fitzgerald. In the bottom of the seventh, Fitzgerald smacked a 2-run double off Syracuse pitcher Dan Rendine. It was his 12th double of the season. Suddenly, the Red Sox were ahead, 8-7.

Afterward, Syracuse manager Abe Blowers said: "Every team has a bad week."
