Late Heroics Net Tides 2-1 Win
|
The Maine Grizzlies could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Ted McConnell into a win. Instead, the Norfolk Tides prevailed, 2-1. McConnell threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Norfolk reliever Patrick Chakos picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. John Fegley was saddled with the loss. At 47-55, the Tides are currently 6th in the International League Southwest Division.
Norfolk got a clutch hit from Olegário Acuña. The designated hitter launched a solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.
"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Manuel Ochoa, the Norfolk skipper.
