The Newark Bears faced a tough opponent in Toledo pitcher Smash Dorcine, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Fifth Third Field by a final score of 5-3. Dorcine went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win was credited to 26-year old left-handed pitcher Santiago Gil in relief. His record improves to 3-3. Reese Dayo took the loss. Newark currently is in 6th place in the International League Northeast Division at 53-54.

Ermengol Abrego came through with a big-time hit for Newark. The third baseman smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 5-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

Newark manager Shark McGee called it "a darn good win."
