Bears Deal Chiefs 7-5 Defeat
The Newark Bears defeated the Syracuse Chiefs, 7-5, in International League action at Victory Field. Newark pitcher Ty Marquard had a standout performance. Marquard, the winner, moves to 7-3. He threw 5 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 4 walks. Thomas Moore earned the save, his 12th, for the Bears.

Newark used a well-timed hit by Dominic Lunsford to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Bears ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 1 at-bat, it was important.

"Ty is one tough hombre," said Newark manager Kyle Hughes.

The 6th-place Chiefs dropped to 55-53.
