The Gwinnett Stripers picked up a win at Coolray Field, dropping the Rochester Norsemen, 6-2. Mal Smart was the difference-maker. Smart got the win, improving to 3-0. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 6.2 innings. He allowed no runs. The 5th-place Stripers improved to 57-63.

Ron Montgomery had a big 3-run home run for the Stripers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Gwinnett leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Denny Kondo, who is tied for 4th in the IL in strikeouts with 127, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Stripers on top, 5-0.

"We're feeling good in this clubhouse right now after that one," Smart told the Gwinnett Today.
