Ruiz Helps Evansville Cruise to 12-3 Win
|
The Evansville Triplets pinned a convincing loss on the Iowa Cubs, 12-3, at BB&T Stadium. Rickie Ruiz was a main factor in the win. He went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4 for Evansville. Jake Fagen earned the win to go to 1-1. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. With the win, Evansville elevates its record to 11-13.
With Evansville leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Ruiz hit a run-scoring single off Iowa hurler Evan Tyson. It was the 18th hit of the season for Ruiz and put his team ahead, 4-2.
"Rickie leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Evansville manager Ryan McMullen.
