Goldeyes Earn Late 2-1 Win
|
NBT Bank Stadium was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes earned a close win over the Tucson Sidewinders, thanks in part to Wally Byron. The Winnipeg left-hander, who is rated as the 54th best prospect by BNN, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. The winner was Vic Berg in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Jerry Eckert took the loss.
Celestino Ruiz was the walk-off hero for Winnipeg. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Goldeyes second baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"There was no wiggle room in this one," said Ruiz.
The Goldeyes are now 17-21.
