66ers Sink Rainiers, 5-1
|
Will Fontaine pitched a gem to lead Inland Empire to victory over the Tacoma Rainiers, 5-1. The winning pitcher was Fontaine, now 2-2. He tossed 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 3. The 66ers are now 30-27, while the Rainiers fall to 35-22.
Inland Empire used a well-timed hit by Roberto Gómez to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the 66ers ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"Winning is the only objective," said Gómez after the game.
