Fading Aces Lose 6th Straight
|
The Reno Aces got a superb performance from pitcher Israel Goben, but the Oklahoma City Wranglers still won the game, 5-3. Goben threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. Oklahoma City reliever Steve Clampitt picked up the win, raising his record to 1-1. Sherell Wright was tagged with the loss. The 8th-place Wranglers improved to 28-41.
The Wranglers beat the Aces in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Hareem James produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against Sherell Wright, James gave his team the lead, 5-3, when he hit a 2-run single.
James said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
