Goldeyes Score Late, Stun Baby Cakes, 5-2
|
The Winnipeg Goldeyes faced a tough opponent in New Orleans pitcher Jim Hemstreet, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Zephyr Field by a final score of 5-2. Hemstreet went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Huck Heinz, now 4-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. Elwood Reitano was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 2 save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Winnipeg, had it not been for José Moreno, the 25-year old third baseman . Moreno contributed a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put Winnipeg up, 4-1.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Winnipeg skipper Baltemar De León.
The setback makes New Orleans 42-42.
