The New Orleans Baby Cakes could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Cesar Mendoza into a win. Instead, the Tucson Sidewinders prevailed, 5-3. Mendoza threw 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Tucson reliever Leo Aliano was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Jude Gruen took the loss. Tucson is now 58-65.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic-born Leonardo Jimez came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Sidewinders trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single to left-center to put Tucson on top.

"Feels good to get the job done," Jimez said after the game.
