Drillers Edged by Hooks, 7-3
|
The Corpus Christi Hooks withstood a fine game by Tulsa designated hitter Sugar Riner at Hammons Field, to upend the Drillers, 7-3. Riner went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to 23-year old right-handed pitcher Tárzan Andujar in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Gore Lane took the loss. The third-place Hooks have a record of 68-43.
Corpus Christi used a timely hit from Baltasar Mauricio to get the win. The first baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hooks ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.
"It feels good to get this one," Mauricio told the Corpus Christi Daily.
