Smokies Roast Blue Wahoos, 11-3
|
The home team gave the crowd at Smokies Park something to cheer about.
The Tennessee Smokies pasted the Pensacola Blue Wahoos with a convincing 11-3 defeat at Smokies Park. Perry LaMaster was a prime factor in the Tennessee win. He was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Martin Villarreal earned the win for Tennessee. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 1-0.
Luís Sánchez had a big bases-clearing triple for the Smokies in the bottom of the third inning. With Tennessee leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Jack Benally and swatted a triple to center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Smokies ahead, 4-0.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," LaMaster said after the game.
The Smokies move to 66-64 with the win, while the Blue Wahoos drop to 70-60.
