Pirates Overcome Great Performance by Figula in Win
The Fort Lauderdale Pirates withstood an impressive performance by West Palm Beach catcher Willie Figula to defeat the Dolphins, 9-8, at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Figula was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Lincoln Queen picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Enrique Teixeira suffered the loss. Alex Palencia notched his 5th save of the season.

Had Ryder Van Rhee not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Van Rhee hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 9-8, in favor of the Pirates.

"We're in a little bit of a dry spell," said West Palm Beach manager Cris Mendoza.

The 6th-place Pirates have won 4 consecutive games.
